French hostages seized in Cameroon found; minister retracts

YAOUNDE: The seven members of a French family who were seized in northern Cameroon earlier in the week have been found in northern Nigeria, a Cameroonian military source told AFP on Thursday.
“The hostages are safe and sound and are in the hands of Nigerian authorities,” the source said on condition of anonymity. “They were found abandoned in a house in Dikwa” in northern Nigeria, the source said.
French minister retracts saying Cameroon hostages freed
France’s Veteran Affairs Minister Kader Arif on Thursday withdrew a previous statement that a French family seized in the north of Cameroon this week had been freed.
“There was information related by the press. There is no official confirmation at this stage,” Arif told parliament. A Cameroonian minister moreover denied Thursday a claim by a military source in Cameroon that the family had been freed.
