Happy Teddy Day 2013 Poems
An experienced Teddy Bear brings with him
a lifetime of knowledge and experience;
the wisdom of silence and the stillness
in moments of tremendous turmoil.
The long-suffering patience
that is learned when belonging to a child
who is coming of age,
and coping with the bewilderment
that this period of time can bring,
is what he does best.
The experienced bear has seen life
through the heart and eyes of a child
grown to adulthood and perhaps
even accompanied that adult all the way to the end of the road.
He sits in his rocker
And waits to be seen
“She hugged me just yesterday -
What could this mean?
Will there be a new teddy
To sit in this chair?
Or perhaps on the sofa
Just over there?
It’s my bearson’s birthday,
I heard someone say.
So chances are good
That a bear’s on its way.
Will my bearson forget me,
Or hug me and say
‘You’re my most favorite bear!’
Like she did yesterday?”

As they left for London at noon that day
They thanked the king for the royal way.
He had entertained and this said they,
“If you’ll visit us int the U.S.A.,
When we get back to our home again
And stop with us in our mountain den,
We’ll donate you food and naught to do
And let you sleep all winter through
And dream of castles and suck your paw,
It beats all the kingdoms you ever saw.
The king just laughed as the train pulled out,
But he said to himself as he turned about,
“It would assist me carry my country’s cares
If every home had Teddy Bears.”
When I was just a wee little bear,
My owner dragged me everywhere,
Filled me up with cold mud pie,
Bit my nose and lost my tie,
Left me outside in the rain,
Spilled her juice and left this stain.
But I didn’t whine or scold,
Cuz she was only two years old!
And what’s a faithful bear to do
When his little girl is only two?
