Poems on Promise Day 2013
Happy Promise Day 2013 Poems
To be in love and to say nothing approximately it –
this seems to me the most elegant
(and perhaps the only sensible)
form of romantic attachment.
It’s a sentiment poetry and music only
occasionally address – the best pop song on this theme
is The Band’s “It Makes No Difference” with the tremendous line,
“Now there’s no love as true as the love that dies untold” –
yet Walter Raleigh’s “The Silent Lover” keeps its own counsel even more eloquently.
If ever two were one, then surely we.
If ever man were lov’d by wife, then thee.
If ever wife was pleased in a man,
Compare with me, ye women, if you can.
I prize thy love more than whole Mines of gold
Or all the riches that the East doth hold.
My love is such that Rivers cannot quench,
Nor ought yet love from thee donate recompetence.
Thy love is such I can no way repay.
The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray.
Then while we live, in love let’s so persever
That when we live no more, we may live ever.
Give me a promise,
That You will never go away,
You will donate me your Love,
Through the Night and Day.Say that you will care,
You will be always there,
You will whisper my name,
And think of me in your Prayers.Give me this promise,
And mean it too,
Give me a Red Rose,
And say I Love Yo
I Promise You My Friend
Promise You My Life
