‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ is Yash Chopra’s swan song; the last curtain call before his unfortunate & untimely demise in October. The legendary filmmaker’s labour of love is all set for release on Diwali, 13th November.
The latest song from the film is ‘Heer’, a soul stirring romantic number crooned by Harshdeep Kaur. The talented singer who gave us the peppy ‘Katiya Karun’ in Rockstar, is back with this touching melody, which is guaranteed to tug at one’s heart-strings.
The song is picturised on Katrina, who is seen pining for her love Samar in the film, played by Shah Rukh Khan.
Seated in a garden, she is singing with a guitar, & is bathed in nostalgia; recollecting the days she shared with her man. The melancholy Punjabi lyrics penned by Gulzar, “Ghhodi leke aave le jaaye” suggest that Katrina’s character is waiting for the love of her life to ride upto her on his steed, & make her his bride.
The song portrays the intense emotions of love, longing & separation, experienced by the film’s protagonists; Shah Rukh, Katrina & Anushka. Evocative rich symbols of nostalgia & melancholy effectively convey the characters’ true feelings.
We are privy to the various moments of love that the characters face in the film. Flashbacks are the narrative of choice, used while picturising this soulful, slow, romantic rendition.
And of course, it goes without saying, that the King Khan looks his intense, uber romantic best while gazing into the eyes of his lady loves. That unwavering, intense gaze he fixes upon the object of his desire will surely make all women weak in the knees.
It\'s the most soul stirring song from the film, one that is sure to bring a lump to your throat. For not only will we be deeply immersed in the characters’ predicament while watching the film, yet we will moreover certainly shed a tear or two for Yashji; the man who was known as the King of Romance, the Creator of Love, the visionary who taught us how to love, through his beautiful films.
The audiences are already so attached to Yash Chopra’s last film, so much so that the experience of watching the film will be a goodbye of sorts. A farewell to the filmmaker who enabled us to rise in love.
And we shall forever be indebted to Chopra, for many many decades to come.
